So big, so fast

September 25, 2008

The past two days have brought about many new endeavors for Alex. A few weeks ago, I went in to his room in the middle of the night to find him standing in his crib. We hadn’t yet lowered his mattress, and needless to say, it got lowered rather quickly. Since we had lowered it, he hadn’t been standing up in his crib anymore. Two nights ago, Adam went in to check on him and there he was… standing at the end of his crib again. At least this time, the railing isn’t at his belly… now it’s at his chin. We don’t have to worry about him toppling out.

Alex has also really been trying to pull himself up to standing lately. He was able to stand if you stood him up against something, but struggled with pulling up himself. Last night, he seemed to master the standing up thing and was so proud of himself when he would do it. Today I took video of it. Take a look-see for yourself below. (Ignore annoying mommy voice)

As though that wasn’t cool (and exciting!) enough for him, he decided to press his luck. Look what else he can do. (Yes, he does start by falling.)

Kids are absolutely amazing. When you think about how much you learned during your first year, don’t you feel like you’ve been a slacker ever since?

From my front porch looking in

September 22, 2008

There is a country music song, by Lonestar, called From My Front Porch Looking In.

Alex’s new thing is to crawl over to our front door and sit watching the world go by. (Yeah, so another reason why I don’t need snakes knocking on my door… and oh yeah, by the way, if that was just a baby snake, WHERE IS THE MAMA??? I can’t think about that right now.)

Anyway, back to this post, so the lyrics to this song are so true to me.

I’ve traveled here and everywhere
Following my job
I’ve seen the paintings from the air
Brushed by the hand of God
The mountains and the canyons reach from sea to shining sea
But I can’t wait to get back home
To the one he made for me
It’s anywhere I’ll ever go and everywhere I’ve been
Nothing takes my breath away
Like my front porch looking in

There’s a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
‘Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
Yeah the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in

I see what beautiful is about
When I’m looking in
Not when I’m looking out

Who wouldn’t want to come home to this every day???

Oh my goodness, he is the cutest thing.

Ex-sss-iting Sssssaturdayssss

September 20, 2008

There is nothing like it. Walking outside, baby in tow, pocketbook in the other hand, locking your door, and looking down to find…

A SNAKE! Not sure if you know anything at all about me… but I am a big baby when it comes to bugs, dogs, cats… and most especially, SNAKES! Ew! I ended up getting it in a box and leaving it for Adam to deal with when he got home.

According to a couple of nature lovers at St. Andrew’s, it is a black rat snake, and “Good to have around your house to eat mice.” Around my house??? Good??? I don’t think so.  This little bugger was trying to knock on my door when I found him and I was not at all looking to have a new tenant move in or even come for a little visit.

Ready for the really eerie part of this story??? Jump ahead and stop pretending… Today (Monday, September 22) I go to work and am walking back from the main building to my office in the Alumni House and what do we see??? ANOTHER SNAKE! Looks exactly like this one except it isn’t as big. I really need to look up mythology and see what it means when snakes are surrounding you. I’m also really looking forward to what kind of dreams I’ll have tonight… NOT.

Vroom Vrooms and Beep Beeps

Little boy, little boy, here you come! A new toy was delivered to our house today and I’m not sure…

but I think he likes it!

This fancy little 3-in-1 ride-on Caterpillar dump truck makes truck starting, horn and the bed dumping noises. It also came with some MegaBloks for him to build with. We’ll definitely need to get him some more of those because he enjoys them, although he hasn’t figured out how to build with them yet. This truck is one that he can push around, ride on or walk behind. Since he is becoming so good at standing and pulling up on things, we figure the walking isn’t too terribly far away. He has to keep up with his buddy, Will, at the day care.

Everybody loves the Solanco Fair!

September 17, 2008

Today we went to the parade for the Solanco Fair. Alex’s cousins, Jada and Jenna, were in the parade with their twirling club. His other cousins, Jordyn, Wesley, Paige and Alexis, watched the parade with us. As did MomMom and PopPop Kendig. Alex was pretty laid back and chill during the parade. (We were lucky to find a place to sit… we didn’t set our chairs out early!)

Daddy and Alex watch the parade go by.

MomMom and Alexis enjoy the sites.

Jada twirls in the parade.

Jenna tries to find us calling her name!

8-month birthday and some mommy lovin’ on the side

Can you believe it? Alex is 8 months old already. It breaks my heart to see him grow up so quickly. And look. Already he squirms away from the “Mommy Lovin’s”. Sigh. I knew the day would come… just not so soon.

Two things we love…

Grandmoms! And chubby baby legs!

We spent the night on Sunday night at Mom-Mom Allen’s house and Grandmom came over to visit. Alex was so excited to show them how he likes to pull up on furniture and stand for long periods of time. Just look at the excitement on his face! And don’t you just want to pinch those chubby little thighs???

You know what? I just realized there are three things we just love in this photo. Baby boy curls. I still can’t bring myself to get the boy a haircut. I love his little baby curls too much.

Wait for it…

WE’VE GOT A TOOTH! Yay, Alex! I have to say, trying to take pictures of a baby’s first tooth is one of the most challenging tasks of my life thus far. Suffice it to say… the photo shoot went progressively downhill. But, can you see the tooth??

Not too bad…

Working up a cry…

Get out of my face, Mommy!

See it??? :)

New Faces

September 6, 2008

Not only do babies reach new milestones or make new sounds all the time, they also make new faces!

Take notice of the bink in this photo… Nope doesn’t use it as a binky, but we did finally find a use for them. He chews on the back side of them. Must feel good on those aching gums because… (wait for it…)

Too stinkin’ cute

September 22, 2008

I know I am WAY PAST DUE to update this blog, so I’m doing a bunch of updates today.

September 4, 2008

I know I’m biased… but I have my breath stolen every time I look at Alex. I also know I am pre-programed to think that he is the cutest, most amazing little man in the world… but I don’t know. I still get yelled at for it, but I think he is beautiful (even if “Boys can’t be beautiful. Boys are handsome.”).

Alex loves to be outside and in his swing. We have his swing set up on the front porch of our house and he can watch the cars drive by and the leaves move in the breeze. He loves it. Just sits back and relaxes.

PS Don’t waste your money on expensive toys. Just buy a baby straps. This is all Alex likes to chew on. Finds them in the car (on the car seat), on the stroller (his buckle), in the house (on the camera bag) and on the swing. Put him anywhere, he’ll find the nearest strap. And he’s not picky about colors!
